RVA producer/rapper — more notably for me, my younger brother — Phd. Khari, decided to push his production skills past his comfort zone and delved into the genre of Dancehall, Lasso was birthed from his experiment.

“Baby You Pull Me Towards Yaa Love, Like a Lasso

No Distance Matters, We’re Connected And Not Attached to (Yeah yeah),

And No Matter The Time Or Weather, Know I Gotchu

You Be My Empress, I’ll Be Your King, Lets Build a Castle”

Hook of PhD Khari – Lasso: Currently Playing on Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud and YouTube.

To its core it is a love song and anyone who has a heart can resonate with it and feel the passion in his singing. PhD occasionally accents his words to resemble Jamaican Patois, but keeping it at a level where it showing respect to the culture Dancehall derives from.(As an older brother it made me laugh a bit, but we do have ancestry comes from the in the Islands of Haiti and Jamaica. He is simply connecting with his roots in the most accessible way for him.)

The inspiration for the song came to him after heading back to Black Bird Studio after a Drum Circle Productions show (pre-COVID of course). Maybe he met or ran into a lover that night and couldn’t contain the emotion any other way. Either way this is PhD’s second single this year and his early 2020 single is rap/R&B track Stay True 2 U that is also a love themed. He may be better known in the city for his beat production, but I hear 2021 2022 Something in the Water is calling his name.
