I was hoping to get back into making editorial videos with this particular post. I interviewed one of their members a week ago, but after one corrupted SD card and the fact that I’ve been sitting on another video project for over a month, this definitely feels more appropriate.

Black Unity LA is a 24/7 protest camp that has occupied the Grand Park space directly across from LA City Hall. Their goal is to shed awareness on police brutality and misconduct, the homeless issue in LA, and to empower all people(not only black). Black Unity embodies the saying “this is what community looks like” as they are a self sustaining encampment, with a community garden, kitchen, library, and it is ever always growing via donations and community efforts. The group plans to stay where they presently are until their demands are met; some of these ideals like ending qualified immunity and investing more money into public education I can definitely agree with. Besides a few encounters like the stand off with the LAPD, the camp is relatively unbothered by law enforcement.
